Privacy & Security
Privacy
The State Library of Victoria is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of its web site users and its Online Shop customers.
Personal information
We collect personal information submitted by you solely for the purpose of managing and delivering your order. We will not pass your details on to any third party. You can find more information on our Privacy page.
Cookies
The Online Shop uses 'cookies'. A cookie is a small piece of code placed on your computer which lets the Shop keep track of items held in your shopping basket, as well as your username and password. The information stored by the cookie includes the data that you provide during online registration. The cookie used by the Online Shop is called slv_shop_assistant. It can only be used by this site and will only be kept for two days.
Security
The Online Shop takes seriously the protection of your personal information and credit card details.
Credit card authorisation
The State Library of Victoria Online Shop uses ANZ eGate, an electronic payment service designed to securely process credit card transactions over the Internet. ANZ eGate processes credit card transactions in a similar manner to a traditional EFTPOS terminal. It carries out card authorisations and debits your account.
No credit card information is stored by the State Library of Victoria or our service provider Media Equation Pty Ltd. All other data is held on the host server at Media Equation. This is located in a secure location with 24-hour security monitoring.
Encryption
The Online Shop protects your personal information by using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), a technology for managing the security of online data transmission. SSL encrypts or scrambles any information sent from your browser to the server to which you are connected, making it impossible to intercept or tamper with the information on the way.
On the page where you add your personal information, you can see a padlock in the bottom right-hand corner of your browser. This means encryption is in place and that information being sent from this page is safe. Also, web pages that require an SSL connection start with https instead of http.
Digital Certificate Authentication
An authenticated digital certificate is your proof that not only is your information protected but it is going to exactly whom it was intended. By clicking on the Thawte seal, you can confirm that the State Library of Victoria is a legal entity and has the right to use the domain name included in the certificate, the validity of the certificate on the web server to which you are connected, its expiry date and the country in which we are based.
