Internet Access

The State Library of Victoria provides internet access for its users through its own network as well as a number of wireless hotspots for those with laptops or PDAs set up to access the web in this manner.

Please note: All computers within the Library building must be used in accordance with the Library's Information & Communication Technology Security Policy.

Network access

Full access through the Library's own network is available on most computers throughout the Library. Non-networked computers - which provide access to particular databases unavailable on networked computers - do not provide full web access.

Wireless access

In conjunction with RMIT University, the Library offers free wireless broadband access for users with compatible laptops or PDAs. Known as WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) or Wireless LAN, this is a standard that enables you to connect to the internet in public locations without wires or cables. It provides fast, reliable and convenient access if you are within range of a 'hotspot'.

The Library also offers wireless broadband access through Optus for those who have an Optus Wireless Connect account.
