A Neverending Parade of Stupid

Everyone’s favourite New York Times reviewer, Dave Itzkoff, has done it again.

This, from an allegedly positive review of China Miéville’s Un Lun Dun:

I sometimes wonder how any self-respecting author of speculative fiction can find fulfillment in writing novels for young readers. I suppose J. K. Rowling could give me 1.12 billion reasons in favor of it: get your formula just right and you can enjoy worldwide sales, film and television options, vibrating-toy-broom licensing fees, Chinese-language bootlegs of your work, a kind of limited immortality (L. Frank Baum who?) and — finally — genuine grown-up readers. But where’s the artistic satisfaction? Where’s the dignity?

Yeah. We were really impressed too.

As a fan of China Mieville, Rowling and so many others writing specultive fiction(including myself) I disgusted that someone writing for a world newspaper would write such crap. I do not believe for one minute that Itzkoff even read Mieville- and if he did, it was probably way beyond his critical faculties…..and Im talking about his YA works!!
Lyn LeJeune- The New Orleans Trilogy - The Beatitudes (yes, speculative fiction- based on The Divine Comedy) available and all royalties go toward rebuilding the public libraries of New Orleans.
