Photographic Copying
The State Library provides a prepaid photographic copying service for Library items using analogue and digital photography. Photographic copying is used for obtaining images for reproduction, as well as for copies of pictorial or fragile items that are not suitable for photocopying.
Please note All requests for copying must fall within the provisions of the Copyright Act. Copyright clearance is the responsibility of the Library user, although the Library may advise users on how to obtain it. Any copying is also subject to the Library's Terms and Conditions.
Images for reproduction
The Library can provide copies of images for reproduction in theses, books, exhibitions, lectures, etc.
Please note You may need to obtain Permission to use Library Items prior to publishing images of State Library of Victoria collection items.
Pictorial & fragile items
Photographic copying is mandatory for all pictorial items such as art works or photographs, and is recommended for architectural drawings, bookplates or illustrations, maps and diagrams, and photographs in newspapers.
Photographic copying may also be necessary for print materials that have been identified as requiring restrictions on photocopying.
How to order
You can place your orders for photographic copying at information desks throughout the Library. Payment is made at the Book Desk in the Information Centre. (See the Library Floor Plan for location of information desks and reading rooms.)
More information about prices, turnaround times, as well as postage and handling charges is available on the Copying Price List.
Copies of images in the Library's Catalogue can also be ordered by fax or by mail. See Ordering Copies for more information.
