Administrative records

The Library holds the records of a diverse range of Victorian companies and non-governmental organisations.

These range from the beginning of settlement in Port Phillip to thriving contemporary organisations including the Melbourne Lyceum Club and the Royal Society of Victoria. The labour movement, welfare, churches, environment, literature and art are all represented to varying degrees.

Administrative records encompass a rich variety of material, and can include minute books, annual reports, correspondence, promotional material, financial information, photographs and, in the case of the Coles Myer records, the occasional cash register and pair of shoes.

These records are crucial to understanding the economic, social and cultural development of Victoria.

Records of Victorian government departments and agencies are held at the Public Record Office Victoria.
