Kevin the Troll: A Bookgig with Doug Macleod
End the school year on a high with this ridiculously funny Bookgig. Doug Macleod's Kevin the Troll is a comedy fantasy about a troll and his clashes with the people of Farchbarden, a town in coastal Sweden. Students in Years 4 to 7 will love the wicked humour of this clever fairytale. Doug Macleod is the author of Sister Madge’s Book of Nuns, I’m Being Stalked by a Moonshadow and Spiky, Spunky, My Pet Monkey. Famous: Exhibition tour for school groups
Students will enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition Famous: Karin Catt portraits, featuring photographic portraits of celebrities – from rock stars to political leaders. In discussion, they will consider the power of portraits, the meaning of identity and celebrity, and photographic style and technique. Available until 11 November. All year levels, 1 hour, $4 per student
Mirror of the World: Exhibition tour for school groups
In the exhibition Mirror of the World: books and ideas, students will discover the evolution of printing, book production and design. Highlights include Audubon’s magnificent Birds of America and superb rare books and literary classics from the 13th to the 21st centuries. All year levels, 1 hour, $4 per student
The changing face of Victoria: Exhibition tour for school groups
Students will be guided in the exhibition to develop an understanding of the arrival of white settlers in Victoria, and of the land's earlier inhabitants. They will view Ned Kelly’s original armour and explore stories and personalities that have made Melbourne unique. All year levels, 1 hour, $4 per student
Put Yourself in the Picture!
Students will visit the exhibition Famous: Karin Catt portraits to view an impressive range of celebrity photographs, then create their own self-portraits, using a gilt-edged frame, backdrops and props provided. Each student's portrait will be printed, and the class can compile an album to keep. Years 5–8, 2 hours, $8 per student
Puzzling Melbourne
Students will visit the Library's exhibition The changing face of Victoria to discover how Melbourne changed from an illegal settlement to a flourishing township. Using 'jigsaw' pieces that identify key artefacts, they will investigate aspects of Melbourne's story, then put the whole puzzle together. Years 7–10 (History), 90 minutes, $6 per student
Make your own book
Students will visit the exhibition Mirror of the World: books and ideas to be inspired by a display of beautiful and significant books in many formats, including handmade artist books. They will then attend a creative workshop to make their own book in an accordion or pamphlet-stitch style, using templates provided. Years 5–6, 2 hours, $8 per student
