Youth Literature Special Events

In 2007, the Centre for Youth Literature presents an evening with popular UK author Terry Pratchett, the launch of Fly Magazine, and the first Booktalkers to venture interstate, to Tasmania.

Monday 12 February

An evening with Terry Pratchett

Enter Discworld, Terry Pratchett’s strange and satirical comic-fantasy universe, featured in more than 40 books. The series has sold over 40 million books and been adapted for TV, radio, comics, film and computer games. Meet one of the world’s most popular and funniest authors in this special event.

Tuesday 20 March

Fly Magazine launch

Students of the Chisholm TAFE Professional Writing & Editing program launch Fly Magazine, their annual publication, with readings by contributors and talks from leading fiction and young adult fiction writers.

Wednesday 1 & Thursday 2 August

Launceston Booktalkers and Booktalkers for Teenagers

The Centre for Youth Literature is delighted to take its program to Tasmania for the first time.

Wednesday 1 August

Booktalkers (for professionals)

Get in touch with the best in young adult fiction! Meet three outstanding writers – Bill Condon, Pat Flynn and Julia Lawrinson – and follow them beyond the comfort zone.

Thursday 2 August

Booktalkers for Teenagers

Young Tasmanians will meet, listen to and work with writers Bill Condon, Pat Flynn and Julia Lawrinson. A morning panel session (including Q&A) will be followed by smaller group workshop sessions with the writers. Recommended for Years 8–11.
