About the Dr Joseph Brown AO Fellowship
This Fellowship is named for Dr Joseph Brown AO, OBE, an art dealer, art collector and artist. It is offered with the help of the Besen Family Foundation.
Aims of the Fellowship
The Fellowship demonstrates the Library's strong commitment to original scholarship and creative endeavour. It aims to:
- promote the State Library of Victoria as a centre of scholarly activity and research
- encourage scholarly and creative use of the Library's collections in the pursuit of the history of Australian art, and the production of publications based on them
- publicise the Library's collections.
Benefits
The Dr Joseph Brown AO Fellowship gives one scholar per year the opportunity for study in the field of art history. The recipient will receive the means and uninterrupted time to work closely with the rich resources of the State Library. The Fellow will have access to a private study for the course of the Fellowship and may use the Library outside the opening hours of reading rooms.

The Dr Joseph Brown AO Fellowship is open to Australian residents.
