November 2006 - 26 January 2007
The Library's inaugural summer reading program explored a sense of place - one of the most important elements in many works of fiction. It took as its theme 20 Novels Set Close to Home, with the shortlist reflecting many of the interesting places in the state that have been written about in some of our most loved books.
The books that received the most votes from readers were:
- Three Dollars by Elliot Perlman
- The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham
- My Brother Jack by George Johnston
- Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay
- Shadow Boxing by Tony Birch.
Getting involved
There were several different ways you could get involved in the 2006-07 summer reading program:
- voting for your favourite book
- contributing your opinions about our recommended titles and discuss summer reading ideas with other readers on the blog (this blog is no longer live)
- attending fantastic free events in public libraries across the state
- discovering which books celebrities love and why.
