Producing a daily book program has required a great discipline in the way we read, in light of the vast mountains of books that appear on our doorstep and given that everything we read must serve the needs of our broadcast. We certainly only read books that engage us, but we can’t double up with books read by others on the program.
So there will be many wonderful books that I’d love to read, but which I will put aside for a time when the program pressures have eased. This inevitably becomes my summer reading list and the joy of the reading is enhanced by the fact that I don’t have to constantly think about how this should become an interview – it becomes, quite simply, reading for pleasure.
