Who loved this book?

Sally Isaac, Manager of Culture and Community Planning, City of Yarra

I think it is a compelling and provocative read which I understand was based on the true story of the disappearance of three schoolgirls and their teacher in the wilds of Hanging Rock on Valentine’s Day in 1900. I am always drawn to dramatic interpretations of real life events and this book left quite an imprint. It reflects the vulnerability of the coming of age and the lure of the unknown, represented eerily by the magnetic force that drew those women deeper into the rock labyrinth. There is something very sparse and stripped back about this book which feels distinctly Australian. I must admit I find it hard to think about it without the Peter Weir flute soundtrack in my head!
