True History of the Kelly Gang
 |
Ned Kelly was the most wanted man in the wild colony of Victoria. In this classic outlaw tale, he scribbles his narrative on errant scraps of paper in semiliterate prose as he flees from the police. To his pursuers, Kelly is nothing but a monstrous criminal; to his own people, the bushranger is a hero.

Who loved this book?Michael Brett Young, CEO of the Law Institute Of Victoria
I enjoyed this book, not only because of the writing style, but because it allowed my imagination to drift back in time, totally engrossing me in a geographical area that I know well. Ned’s life and travel around Victoria was easy for me to visualise and feel part of, as he visited towns, rural areas and even parts of Melbourne that are still identifiable. I was part of Ned’s ‘scene’ especially as he rode through the high country of as a youth. Peter Carey was able to bring a historical novel to life, which is not always possible for me. The fact that I knew the outcome of Ned’s life did not prevent me from becoming fully engrossed in Ned’s life.
