Foxcroft Lecture 2007

Bibliography as Memory: The British book trade, 1475-1890

On 22 February 2007, Professor TH Howard-Hill talked about his three-volume bibliography, Bibliography as Memory: the British book trade, 1475-1890, published by the British Library in December 2007. Traversing the literature of the book trade from the beginning of printing in Britain to the end of the 19th century, the bibliography documents four centuries of technological and social progress.

Professor Howard-Hill, from the University of South Carolina, was born in New Zealand and began his career there. He is the author of a number of important scholarly works and bibliographies, including British Book Trade Dissertations to 1980 and Bibliography of British Literary Bibliographies. He is the current editor of Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America.
