Writers on the Road

Writers on the Road

Writers on the Road finished in June 2005. It was a touring literary program that brought the best contemporary authors to public libraries throughout Victoria. The program was an initiative of the Victorian Public Library Network, the State Library of Victoria and the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards Committee.

The program aimed to:

  • promote the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards winning and short-listed authors
  • enthuse adults and children about books and reading
  • promote contemporary Australian writers and writing
  • promote public libraries as active, innovative cultural institutions.

In 2001, at the end of its first year, Writers on the Road was awarded a State Government Arts Portfolio Award in the category of Public Programs, in recognition of its importance and success.
