Joel Becker (Convenor)

Joel Becker is Director of the Victorian Writers' Centre and has been in the book industry for more than 30 years as a bookseller, writer, editor, consultant and freelance cultural project manager. Joel has previously been a judge of the Ned Kelly Awards for Australian Crime Writing and the Australian Book Design Awards, as well as being on the selection panel for the State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowships awarded in 2003 and 2004. 

Kevin Brophy

Kevin Brophy has had three novels, four collections of poetry and two books of essays published. His novel Visions was shortlisted for the Vogel Prize and his book of essays, Creativity was shortlisted for the Gleebooks Prize. In 2007 is collection of short fiction, What Men and Women Do, was highly commended for the Christina Stead award. He teaches creative writing in the School of Culture and Communication at the University of Melbourne.

Lucy Sussex

Lucy Sussex is a freelance researcher, editor and writer. She has published widely, writing anything from literary criticism to horror and detective stories. In addition she is a literary archaeologist, rediscovering and republishing the 19th-century Australian crime writers Mary Fortune and Ellen Davitt. Her short story, 'My Lady Tongue' won a Ditmar (Australian Science Fiction Achievement Award) in 1988. In 1994 she was a judge for the international Tiptree award, which honours speculative fiction exploring notions of gender. Her first adult novel, The Scarlet Rider, is about biography, Victorian detective fiction, voodoo and a ghost.
