The Prize for an Unpublished Manuscript by an Emerging Victorian Writer: Judges 2003
Joel Becker (Convenor)
Joel Becker is Director of the Victorian Writers' Centre and has been in the book industry for more than 30 years as a bookseller, writer, editor, consultant and freelance cultural project manager. Joel has previously been a judge of the Ned Kelly Awards for Australian Crime Writing and the Australian Book Design Awards, as well as being on the selection panel for the State Library of Victoria Senior Fellowships awarded in 2003.
Meredith Rose
Meredith Rose has worked in house at D.W. Thorpe, McPhee Gribble, Penguin, Reed, Random House and Magabala. She has also worked as a freelancer and is currently Senior Literary Editor at Penguin.
Cate Kennedy
Cate Kennedy was the winner of The Age Short Story Competition in 2000 and 2001, the 2001 HQ/Sceptre Short Story Award, the University of Canberra Short Story Prize and the Scarlet Stiletto award for crime writing. Her first collection of poetry, Signs of Other Fires, was published in 2001, and won the Vincent Buckley Poetry Prize in 2002. She now teaches creative writing across Victorian Secondary schools as a writer in residence.
