The John Curtin Prize for Journalism: Judges 2005
Matthew Ricketson (Convenor) Matthew Ricketson is the Coordinator of Journalism Studies at RMIT University. He has worked for Time Australia magazine, The Australian and The Age as a general reporter, state political reporter and feature writer. He is a regular freelance contributor to various papers and magazines, and appears on radio as a media commentator. In 1994, he won the National Freelance Journalism award, administered by the University of Technology, Sydney. He has expertise in writing about children's literature, and is the author of the critically acclaimed Paul Jennings: The Boy in the Story is Always Me.
Dr Gerard Henderson Dr Gerard Henderson is one of Australia's leading political and social commentators. He was educated at the University of Melbourne and is now executive director of The Sydney Institute. He writes a weekly column for The Sydney Morning Herald and The West Australian, comments each week on ABC Radio’s National Breakfast program and appears regularly on the ABC TV Insiders program. Gerard Henderson's books include Menzies Child: The Liberal Party of Australia 1944-94, A Howard Government? Inside the Coalition and Mr Santamaria and the Bishops.
Ramona Koval Ramona Koval is the presenter and producer of the weekly program Books and Writng and the co-presenter of Australia Talks Books with Sandy McCutcheon. Her books include the novel Samovar and Tasting Life Twice: Conversations with Remarkable Writers. She has also written features and columns for newspapers including The Age and The Weekend Australian. She has worked as an academic at RMIT University and the University of Melbourne, and before that as a microbiologist and geneticist. She is a staff elected ABC Board member, and has been a judge of the the Walkley Awards for Journalism.
