The Alfred Deakin Prize for an Essay Advancing Public Debate: Judges 2005
Jonathan Mills (Convenor) Jonathan Mills directed the 2000 and 2001 Melbourne Festivals, the Autumn Federation Festival in 2001, and is Artistic Director of the Alfred Deakin Lectures Board. An internationally recognized composer, his operas include Ghost Wife composed with Dorothy Porter. He has worked as a regular guest conductor with all major Australian orchestras, as Artistic Director of the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra (1990-94), Artistic Advisor Brisbane Biennial (1994-97). His many Awards include: Australian Performing Rights Association Award 1998, Don Banks Music Fellowship 1996 and Sir Bernard Heinze Award 1997.
Jon Faine Jon Faine presents the Mornings program on ABC Radio 774. With a professional background in law, Jon entered radio broadcasting in 1989 to produce and present Radio National's Law Report. He then presented 3LO's morning and afternoon programs and worked on ABC TV's Investigators, First Edition and Wise UP. He has also been a scriptwriter for a number of TV and feature films.
Dianna Gribble Dianna Gribble is Principal in Private Media Partners, media investment group and publisher of Crikey.com.au. She has worked extensively in publishing as founding shareholder and director of the Text Media Group 1990-2004, joint founder and director of McPhee Gribble Publishers 1975-89. She has also served on the boards of the Australia Council 1982-88 (deputy chair 1985-88), Austrade, Circus Australia, Melbourne Major Events Company, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation 1995-2000 (deputy chair) and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra 1996-2001. In 1993 she was awarded an AM for services to publishing and the promotion of Australian literature.
