Jonathan Mills (Convenor)

Jonathan Mills directed the 2000 and 2001 Melbourne Festivals, the Autumn Federation Festival in 2001, and is Artistic Director of the Alfred Deakin Lectures Board. An internationally recognized composer, his operas include Ghost Wife composed with Dorothy Porter. He has worked as a regular guest conductor with all major Australian orchestras, as Artistic Director of the Adelaide Chamber Orchestra (1990-94) and Artistic Advisor Brisbane Biennial (1994-97). His many Awards include: Australian Performing Rights Association Award 1998, Don Banks Music Fellowship 1996 and Sir Bernard Heinze Award 1997.

Louise Adler

Louise Adler is the CEO & Publisher of Melbourne University Publishing. Between 1977 and 1987 she taught English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University and the University of Melbourne. She then became the editor of Australian Book Review the Publishing Director of Reed Books Australia. In 1994 she became the Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Age. Following this, Louise joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio National as the presenter of Arts Today and was the inaugural Deputy Director (Academic & Research) at the Victorian College of the Arts.

Hon Barry Jones AO

Hon Barry Jones AO entered parliament in 1977. Before this time his often high-profile career ranged from high school teacher to Australian Quiz Champion (1960-68) and pioneering the first Australian two-way public affairs radio program. During his parliamentary career, he was Minister for Science from 1983 to 1990 and chaired the OECD Meeting of Science Ministers in Paris in 1987. He was ALP National President from 1992 to 2000. His publications include: Sleepers Wake! Technology and the Future of Work; Managing Our Opportunities and Barry Jones' Dictionary of World Biography (1994). He is currently Chair of the Victorian Schools Innovation Commission which emphasises creativity as an essential part of education and life.
