Literary Programs
The Victorian Premier's Literary Awards, established in 1985, are now recognised as one of Australia's most prestigious national literary awards. Administered by the State Library of Victoria on behalf of the Premier of Victoria, these awards honour Australian literary endeavour, ideas, innovation and learning.
The Commonwealth Writers’ Prize is a major literary award which encourages and rewards new fiction and ensures that works of merit reach a wider audience outside their country of origin. The State Library of Victoria hosted the the 2006 Prize from 9 to 14 March. It was part of Festival Melbourne2006, the cultural festival of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
Administered by the Library, these awards support and foster Victoria's theatre industry by providing funding to Victorian-based writers to develop their scripts.
This performance poetry competition is national, with heats in each state culminating in a final at the State Library of NSW. It's a chance for poets, hip-hop artists and other wordsmiths to polish their rhymes and lyrics and win some prizes.
