Professional Development
The Library offers a range of professional development programs.
Youth literacy programs
The Centre for Youth Literature offers inspirational and practical professional development for teachers, teacher-librarians and public librarians working with teenagers and young people. The programs present ideas and strategies from specialists in the youth literature field to keep you up to date with the latest ideas in youth literature.
The 2008 program comprises:
- Blogging for writers workshop with Lili Wilkinson
- Thursday 28 February, 10am-12.30pm or 6-8pm
- Reader development seminar with Tom Palmer and others
- Thursday 10 April, 9am-3.30pm
- Novel ideas seminar: book selection for the classroom with Morris Gleitzman and others
- Friday 23 May, 9am-3.30pm
- Juicy writing workshop with Brigid Lowry
- Friday 29 August, 9am-1pm.

Exhibition-based programs
The Education Programs Unit conducts exhibition previews for teachers of all year levels and subjects. Sessions are offered twice annually for each permanent exhibition, and once for each temporary exhibition. The previews introduce teachers to the exhibition and highlight the programs on offer for school groups. These evening sessions are free, and catering is provided. Bookings are essential.
The 2008 Semester 2 program comprises:
- Sport and War exhibition tour for teachers

- The changing face of Victoria exhibition tour for teachers
Tuesday 9 September, 5.30-7.30pm
- How to use free online resources at the State Library (in conjunction with VATE; $22)
Thursday 23 October, 5-6.30pm
- Mirror of the World: books and ideas exhibition tour for teachers
Tuesday 28 October, 5.30-7.30pm
- End-of-year event for teachers (free)
Thursday 4 December, 5.30-7.30pm.
