Play Pod: Activities for Kids
The Play Pod is a colourful and kid-friendly space for families with young children. Get comfy and dip into the latest children's stories and picture books, or discover a selection of poetry books and activities for children under 12 (kindly donated by Media Russell and the Australian Poetry Centre). Play chess or a video game, make your own replica of Ned Kelly's helmet, or try the Shopping Spree craft activity (from 11 December).

Storytime on International Literacy Day
Hear great stories from special guests, then join in a fun story activity to celebrate International Literacy Day!

Sparky Stories
Free Sunday fun for kids aged 5 to 12! Inspired by illustrated books from the Library's collection, each child will create a digital picture-book, complete with illustrations and their own narration. Time: Sun 16 & 30 August, 13 September, 11 & 25 October, 10am–12noon

Slovenian Storytelling: Land of Fairytales
Meet five well-known Slovenian authors, and enjoy delightful stories and a puppet show, Song for a Fairy. Presented in association with the Institute for Slovenian Studies of Victoria Inc.

Super-action Storytelling
With storyteller Bernard Caleo, children will discover fantastic art collection, then return for a fun workshop and creates their own picture book. (For ages 5 to 12.)

After Dark at the Library
This annual event is a fun evening for the whole family during Children's Week. Hear great stories from popular children's authors, take a haunting Library tour, and join in the launch of Penguin's Kids Night In 3 anthology. Featuring special guests Doug MacLeod, Andy Griffiths, Gabrielle Wang, Shaun Tan, Sally Rippin and Michael Wagner, plus supper, giveaways and prizes. Don't forget your torch!
