Jane Sullivan is a writer specialising in literary journalism. She won the inaugural Australian Human Rights Award for journalism, is author of the novel The White Star, and writes for The Age. Susan Martin is Senior Lecturer in English at La Trobe University. Tony Birch writes short fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction and has also worked as a writer and curator with photographers, film makers and artists. He teaches creative writing at the University of Melbourne. Alice Pung is a writer and lawyer whose work has appeared in The Monthly, Good Weekend, the Australian, Meanjin, The Age, The Best Australian Stories 2007 and Etchings. Her book Unpolished Gem won the 2007 Australian Newcomer of the Year award.
