Education Resource

This is a comprehensive resource for history and arts units relating to the medieval period, and medieval illuminated manuscripts in particular. The kit is designed to enhance students’ understanding of medieval history, art and book production through engaging thinking-based activities. It also complements a visit to the Library’s permanent exhibition Mirror of the World: books and ideas.

The resource is aligned with Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and targeted at Year 7 and 8 students (VELS Level 5), across key domains of history and the arts.

Contents

The education resource is divided into four main sections:

  • Educational themes - an overview of the five key exhibition-related themes for discussion and investigation
  • Learning programs - nine classroom activities for use before and after your exhibition visit
  • Program resource sheets - material for students and teachers to use while following the learning programs
  • Other resources and references - useful books and websites about medieval manuscripts.
