FOR HEALTH & PROSPERITY

The lives of many Australians have been touched in some way by the architectural works of Stephenson & Turner. This exhibition showcases two key aspects of the firm's vast body of work: the architecture of health, and the architecture of prosperity.

For health, the designs of Stephenson & Turner revolutionised building and practice in the health and caring professions. The firm was directly involved in the design and subsequent alterations of most, if not all, metropolitan and regional hospitals in Victoria, as well as in many other Australian states and internationally.

For prosperity, Stephenson & Turner's work includes numerous banks in metropolitan, suburban and rural centres, various commercial commissions, as well as vast industrial projects and an array of designs for educational, recreational, residential, embassy and religious buildings.

These designs played a vital role in the importation and adaptation of Modernism into Australia, and hold a pivotal place in the history of architectural Modernism in its fullest expression.
