Public Kelly
The iconography of Ned Kelly has not been confined to art, stage and
print but has moved into all aspects of our national culture. The exhibition
also investigates the appearance of Kelly in architecture, fashion and
public spectacles such as the Sydney 2000, Olympic Games. The costumes
for the Kelly figures in the opening ceremony were based on Sidney Nolan's
paintings, which continue to inform the representation of Kelly within
many facets of contemporary art and design.
