Cinematic Kelly

The earliest Kelly film, The Story of the Kelly Gang, was made in 1906 and is arguably the first feature movie made in the world. Rarely a decade has gone by in which at least one Kelly film has not appeared. Kelly Culture features a range of films including When the Kellys Rode (1934) and The Glenrowan Affair (1951). It also highlights Tony Richardson's Ned Kelly (1970) which starred Mick Jagger, the television mini-series The Last Outlaw (1980), Yahoo Serious's Reckless Kelly (1993) and Gregor Jordan's Ned Kelly (2003), starring Heath Ledger as Ned Kelly. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to view a multimedia presentation of selected excerpts from a range of these films, together with posters, souvenir publications and helmets worn by various "Ned Kelly's".
