Meeting the Challenge of Climate Change
In collaboration with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, on 27 March 2007 the Library hosted this timely seminar on climate change in honor of Mr and Mrs R Pratt. Discussions focused on the impact of climate change and action taken here and abroad.
The Hon Joseph B Gildenhorn, Chairman of the Woodrow Wilson Centre, provided introductory remarks. The Hon John Thwaites MP, Deputy Premier of Victoria and Minister for Water, Environment & Climate Change, delivered the keynote address. Dr Geoffrey Dabelko, the Woodrow Wilson Centre's Director, Environmental Change and Security Program, chaired a panel discussion with the following guests:
- Dr Jon Barnett, Senior Lecturer, School of Anthropology, Geography & Environmental Studies, University of Melbourne
- Anthony Wood, Director, Public and Government Affairs, Origin Energy
- Peter Christoff, Professor, School of Anthropology, Geography and Environmental Studies, University of Melbourne; Vice President, Australian Conservation Foundation.
The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars is a nonpartisan institute for advanced study and dialogue, set up in memory of Woodrow Wilson, US President 1913-21.

The Hon Joseph B Gildenhorn provides introductory remarks and Dr Geoffrey D Dabelko discusses parallels between Victoria and US states in terms of climate change, and other key sectors for climate action.
Dr Jon Barnett discusses what climate change means in terms of vulnerability and adaption for the neighborhood, including small island states, East Timor and China.
Mr Anthony Woods discusses private sector efforts to meet the challenge of global climate change and provides lessons learned from public-private partnerships.
Dr Peter Christoff discusses regional and international efforts on climate change. He examines the Kyoto agreement, cooperation with major emitters and the Asian region.
