These terms and conditions apply to all computer and computer-related equipment being used on the premises of the State Library of Victoria, 328 Swanston Street Melbourne.
Users of any computer equipment on State Library premises do so on the basis that they agree to the following terms and conditions of use.
Conditions
State Library computer equipment must not be used for any illegal, unauthorised or dangerous purpose and must be used in accordance with Victorian and Commonwealth of Australia laws, and the policies and by-laws of the State Library. This includes processing or copying information that in any way breaches or infringes copyright, patents or any other intellectual property rights.
State Library computer equipment must not be used to defame, libel, ridicule or disparage any person or organisation. It must not be used to access or display material that is discriminatory or otherwise inappropriate.
Users must not interfere with the State Library’s computer equipment or disrupt any other user or service. This includes adding, deleting or changing anything on the Library’s computer equipment without approval from an authorised member of the Library’s staff.
While accessing the Internet, users of the State Library’s computer equipment who are under the age of 12 must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
Terms
The State Library reserves the right to change the policies and by-laws relating to the use of the State Library’s computer equipment at any time without notice.
The State Library is entitled to monitor any activity on its computer equipment for statistical reports. Activity is monitored in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2000.
The State Library is not responsible for the accuracy of content and information accessed using computer equipment. Users can make complaints to the Australian Communications and Media Authority [1] about prohibited content or potential prohibited content.
To the extent permitted by law, the State Library is not under any liability in respect of any loss or damage to any person or property whether direct, indirect or consequential that may be incurred from the use of State Library computer equipment.
The State Library accepts no responsibility for security on the Internet. Sending information on State Library computer equipment via the Internet, including information relating to any financial transaction, is undertaken at the user’s sole risk.
Infringements
Any infringement of these terms and conditions may lead to:
- denial of access to the State Library’s computer equipment
- being escorted from the premises
- exclusion from the State Library for a period set by the State Library
- referral to an appropriate legal authority.
