this morning as soon as
day light appeared saw
the Heads of Port Phillip
about 8 miles off with
a fair wind we got
between the Heads about
9 Oclock A.M. the tide
running out nearly low
water, a very heavy
surff running at the
entrance, the wind
was light and with
some difulculty we
got - in width about
One mile and 1/4 the depth
5 ½ to 7 fathoms of water
we got well into the Port
in about 10 Oclock where
the water is very smooth
and one of the finest
basons of water I ever
saw - and most extensive
