declines it I trust you will yet be well enough to
undertake a journey to London - I shall be glad
to do all the hard work, & to be guided by your
judgment & I think I might possibly be of some use in any
interview with the Colonial Secretary, in supplying
some information that which my knowledge of the whole
proceedings of the association would enable me to do
& which perhaps would not be an unnecessary adjunct
to the exertions of a more influential person - I have a
Letter to day from Mr Buxton from which I gather (entre nous) that he is
not just now at the present moment in the best odour in
Downing Street - he says he is continually voting
against Government, that he did so last week & shall
do so again & I very much fear in the present posture
of affairs he will not be willing to undertake any
negociation with the Colonial office while he is
brought into such almost constant collision with it -

I shall however see him on his return to Town &
communicate to you his views - At present the
subject is quite new to him, he has seen none of
the Documents & I do not quite despair of interesting
him in the matter - It would be very important
to secure Under Secy Mr Stephen's assistance for after all my Lord
Glenelg will leave it very much to him - I am very
intimate with his Cousin the Atty General of Van Diemens
land from whom I brought an introduction to him & have
seen him since my return, but I thought him dreadfully
cold and diplomatic official & I am sure it will require
