My dear Sir
I have this day received your favor
of the 22nd inst & I hasten to reply to it - I have also
received a Letter from Messrs Spottiswoode & Robertson
informing me they have received instructions to
communicate fully with me in the business - I have
in consequence received from them copies of such
documents as I required & have devoted the day principally
to a consideration of the subject - I have seen your
Letter to Lord Glenelg & his Lordships reply & think with
you that the matter has not yet been brought before
him - I had occasion to day to write to his Lordship
& I mentioned incidentally that I expected shortly, in
conjunction with yourself, to wait upon him in
reference to our Association - I entirely agree with
you that we shall do nothing unless we get some
person of weight & influence to interest himself in
the matter & to force it on the attention of the
Government - If the Gentleman mentioned in your
private communication will can be persuaded to undertake it
I have no doubt of our succeeding, & I shall be
very anxious to hear his determination - If he
