grant next to Swanston it is fine beautiful Land
rather hilly but well suited for sheep. I hope it will
be a fortune for him & his Children
Now my Dear Fellow a few words for yourself
the Land to the westward of our Lines I always told you was
of the best quality & having traversed many miles over
that part of the Country I beg you will obtain for
yourself a tract of Land called the Barrabul Hills
about 20 miles from that part of Port Philip called
Geelong Harbour & bounded on the east side by
the river Barwun (called by mistake in our
charts Barwuna), & this tract is fine sheep Hills
protected from the N.W. Winds & if you
obtain a river frontage of 10 miles & extend gate
back about 8 or 10 you will have 30,000 acres
Mr Mercer has the Plan (if you have not) which will
enable you to acquire this Land.
We have reserved about 10,000 Acres for the
Township so that every man may have a little farm
near the settlement & only visit his stock station
when requisite. I have made up my mind if the
Land is confirmed to leave Hobart Town & settle for
the Summer months at Port Philip.
Yours faithfully
J:T: Gellibrand
PS. You are at full liberty to make any use
of my letter that you may think proper.
