here and fitted up expressly to carry Sheep for the Sum
of ₤1128 on our part. I mean on yours Mr. Learmonths
and my own. I have taken one half Mr. Batman and
Mr. Gillibrand take the other half. She is to be employed
first in transporting our Sheep &c. and afterwards to be
hired to the other parties. – We calculate to close the expence
of transporting our own Sheep and selling the Schooner
afterwards without loss. – The Norval is taken up for ~
three months at ₤250 per month – She will carry about
1200 Sheep besides freight.
I have purchased one flock of highly improved
Maiden Ewes at 25/. per head two flocks of 500 each
at 20/. and a flock of 1000 at 26/. - for the pure - -
Saxon Rams 80 in number I have paid ₤5 “ 4 ₤ & ₤ 3
per head. – Whilst these flocks will be collected and –
embarked from this country by Mr. Moodie, they will be
received at Port Philip by Mr. Fergusson. – Mr. Moodie
has some Shepherds under him for the purpose and on
board the Vessel there are two Shepherds especially ~
appointed to take the management of the Sheep and who
never quit her – With the last Flock Mr. Moodie and
the other Shepherds will proceed to Port Philip. – The
place of embarkation is George Town – at the mouth
of the River Tamar.
Although I have included your name as a
Shareholder and debited you with a share of the expences
in this transaction I trust you will by no means ~
consider any thing that I have done as at all binding
upon you – Should you disapprove of my proceedings
you must not visit me further with your displeasure
than by merely directing me to repay you the Funds I have
so employed which I willingly do with Bank Interest.
