1837
March 1st.
Anchored in Pt Phillip at 2 p.m. on the
Southern side about 4 miles to the eastward
of Point Nepean and about three from
where Col. Collins formed his temporary
establishment in 1803.
In the Evening went on shore at Point
Nepean landing at the Place which Collins
called Sullivan's Bay and ascended the
Hill which seems to be composed entirely
of Sand and covered with thick bushes
its greatest height being from 150 to 180
feet. Proposed to place a Light House
on the centre Hummock of the Hill if a
foundation can be made. Examined
Sullivans Bay and the whole coast between
Point Nepean and the Anchorage (about
3 miles) to discover a convenient station
for a Custom House Boat or a Pilot
Boat but found nothing that would at
all answer.
