The State Library administers a number of research programs, reflecting its place as a hub for intellectual inquiry and discourse. It awards fellowships to benefit those working in the creative and scholarly spheres, and scholarships to promote high standards and leadership in the public library sector.

The Library is open seven days a week, excluding some public holidays.
