Public images of World War I: the myth and the reality

Essay

This project will draw on the Library’s collections of reports sent from the battlefront by war correspondents, photographers and artists, and examine how they were presented to the Australian public.

Jill will explore the question of how this reporting influenced audiences at home, in particular people’s decisions to send sons, brothers and husbands to war.

Jill Jolliffe is a former war correspondent and author of eight nonfiction books. She currently works as a freelance writer and researcher.
