Hamish Curry, in dark suit, speaks to camera: How do you make a library of the future? Well, here, we’ve created Experimedia. You’re not going to see many books. That’s because, I guess, in the future there may not be that many books around. But certainly you can see there’s going to be a lot of technology. In here we give people a chance to experiment, relax and have a bit of fun with some of the spaces we can provide in the library.
In Experimedia, we’ve not only got games for people to play...
[Shots of people in front of computers, plus a child and adult sitting at a table drawing with crayons.]
Hamish: ...but also a series of computers where people can play with all sorts of creative software. Maybe edit a movie… We have a play pod where families can relax, but also a young readers’ corner. Anyone, basically, can come and have a play with the things that go on at this library.
[More shots of people playing motion games with TVs and controllers, plus people sitting on deckchairs and beanbags.]
Hamish: There are not many libraries in the world where you can relax in a deckchair, have a drink and even a lollypop and engage with a great film. Experimedia’s all about the element of surprise.
