Libraries and development in Timor-Leste

An evening with Kirsty Sword Gusmão and Steve Bracks, introduced by the Hon John Cain.

Kirsty Sword discusses the critical role of libraries in the development of Timor-Leste and their contribution to community development and education. The Hon Steve Bracks describes his work in the country and shares his observations on its ongoing development needs.

This talk was held at the State Library of Victoria on Monday 11 May 2009.

The Hon John Cain is president of the Library Board of Victoria and a former premier of Victoria. Kirsty Sword Gusmão is goodwill ambassador for education in Timor-Leste and chairwoman of the ALOLA Foundation. The Hon Steve Bracks is special adviser to Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and a former premier of Victoria.
