Family history resources

You can find out all about your ancestors, be they royalty or paupers, by using the Library’s genealogy and family history resources.

The Library's Family History & Newspaper Room contains a wide range of information. Here, you can discover when your grandparents arrived in Australia or find out about a distant relative who was a convict. You can look up directories, electoral rolls, birth, death and marriage indexes, passenger lists, the Ancestry and Findmypast databases and much more.

We also host events and training for those interested in family history. Beginners to genealogy may be interested in attending one of our free genealogy workshops. Each year we run the Family History Feast, a day-long seminar for genealogists. You can also watch and listen to many past family history events online.
