The State Library of Victoria is a research library, which means that it contains historical items and original documents that you won't find anywhere else. You can't borrow items, but there's a huge range of items you can look at and read.

To do this you'll need to register as a Library user. It's free to register, and once you do, you'll have access to over 2 million items from different collections, plus local and international databases.

The three best things about the State Library of Victoria:

  1. You can ask the librarians to help you find what you need – they're there to help!

  2. Lots of the Library's collection is now available in digital format online, so you don't even need to leave home to use it.

  3. It's free to visit the exhibitions and access broadband wireless internet. It's also free to access collection items – once you're a registered Library user.
