Half-caste

A term used to describe individuals of mixed race. In Australia 'half-caste' refers to children who have one Aboriginal and one European parent.

Hops

One of the key ingredients used to make beer. Hops is a malted grain with a bitter flavour.

Ice floes

Ice floes are frozen masses of seawater (saltwater) that float on the surface of the sea, usually ten kilometres or wider in size.

Industrial Relations legislation

Laws passed on a state or federal level that govern the regulation of industrial relations.


Irons

Iron chains used to restrain a prisoner, often around the legs or arms. Irons, which were usually made of iron, were frequently used in colonial times.


K

Kent Bay

An early settlement near Western Port in Victoria, which was also an important  sealing base.
