This section contains a selection of worksheets that you can use with students to help them critically evaluate documents and images.
Document study worksheet. Used to look at a single document in detail, with questions which focus on key points for further discussion.
Image study worksheet. Used to evaluate the key features and message communicated in a single image.
Comparing images worksheet. Used to compare two images, exploring key features, similarities and differences, as well as the creator's purpose.
Map study worksheet. Used to explore the features of a single map and evaluate the context in which it was created.
Understanding the question worksheet. Used to help students to focus on the essay question and work out exactly what they need to do before they start writing and researching.
Evaluating sources worksheet. Used to evaluate a single source, based on the three questions – WHO created the source? WHEN did they create it? WHY did they create it?
Note-taking worksheet. Sample template for note-taking, including a rating system to help students evaluate resources and a section to record key quotes they can use to back up their argument.
Essay plan worksheet. Used to write and structure the body of the essay around the acronym SEE – Statement, Example, Explanation.
Organising essay ideas worksheet. Sample template which shows students how each paragraph makes a clear point, and how to move paragraphs around to build the best argument.
Bibliography outline worksheet. Used to record the details of websites and printed material students find during research.
