Government Publications

This collection contains both Australian and international official government publications. Including a wide range of current and historical publications, it provides basic social, economic, political and geographical information about every country in the world.

What's in the Government Publications Collection?

This collection includes any publication produced by an official or governmental body - whether legislative, judicial or executive. It contains parliamentary debates, parliamentary papers, committee papers, budgets, major departmental and semi-government annual reports and occasional reports, government gazettes, statutes and regulations. Other legislative materials include indexes, tables and bills, government directories, and reports of intergovernmental bodies as well as constitutions, treaties and statistical publications. 

What's special about this collection?

Because the Library has actively collected in this area since the very earliest days, our historical collection not only documents the development of Victoria but is an extremely valuable research tool. Comprising government publications from Victoria, other Australian states and territories, and from overseas, these materials supplement and enrich many of our other collections.

The majority of materials from overseas include significant publications of the United Nations and the European Community. Other materials from Asian-based organisations, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States reflect the political, economic, cultural and strategic links with Australia.
