Book a student visit

Schools can visit the Library by booking a program tailored for primary, secondary, tertiary or international students, or undertaking a self-guided visit.

All programs and self-guided tours must be booked before you bring students to the Library. This allows us to provide information about the visit and helps us manage large groups moving through our spaces.

Programs are run by the education team and held at the Library. They complement the VELS and Australian curriculum and many are supported by online education resources.

An education officer will meet you outside the main entrance five minutes before your booked program starts. If you're late, let us know on 03 8664 7555.

Large bags can't be taken into the Library. If you've booked a program, students can store their bags for free in secure lockers. Groups undertaking self-guided visits will need to pay for lockers in Palmer Hall.

Food and drink isn't allowed inside the Library, but it can be stored in bags left in lockers. See our food and drink policy for more information.

Cameras are permitted provided a flash isn't used.

Bus parking

We provide free, temporary bus parking in the 30-minute bus parking bay outside the conference centre & theatrette. Day parking for buses is available on Russell Street, just north of La Trobe Street; Mackenzie Street, immediately around the corner from there; and Russell Street, just north of Bourke Street.

Terms & conditions

The minimum group size for school programs is 14 students. If there are less than 14 students, the program may still be run, but the minimum cost incurred will be the equivalent of 14 attendees.

Bookings must be made at least one month in advance.

Cancellation less than three weeks before the date of your booking will incur a fee of 50 per cent of the amount payable for the booking.

Non-attendance at a booked program will incur a fee of 100 per cent of the amount payable for the booking.

All school bookings must be accompanied by a school purchase order. This should be given to the Library on or before the day of the program.
