Stephen Mayne on governance, transparency and power

Stephen Mayne explores the topic, 'Governance, transparency and power: how does Australia rate?'.

Having served as a government media advisor and an elected councillor, defended four defamation writs and appeared on Four Corners as a whistleblower, Stephen is uniquely placed to reflect on transparency and governance issues across the Australian media, business and political landscape.

Stephen Mayne is a Walkley Award-winning journalist and the founder of the independent ezine Crikey. As a shareholder activist, he has run for 40 public company boards and asked questions at hundreds of AGMs. He is now a member of the Australian Shareholders' Association board, and he publishes the online Mayne report.

This Stephen Murray-Smith Lecture was held on 13 October 2011.
