Information for Applicants

Eligibility

Permanent employment at the Library is available to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia only. Candidates with valid work permits may be offered temporary employment, provided this accords with the terms and conditions of their work permit or visa. Candidates who have applied for permanent residency can be engaged on fixed term contracts.

What is required in an application?

Your application should consist of the following:

  • a covering letter noting the position number and the title of the role you are applying for
  • an up-to-date resume 
  • succinct statements of your experience/achievements which address the key selection criteria (dot-point format is acceptable)
  • a contact number during business hours.

Where are vacancies advertised?

Vacancies are advertised on this website, www.seek.com.au, www.jobs.vic.gov.au and in The Age. If you have the necessary qualifications and experience for an advertised vacancy, please reply in response to that advertisement.

Obtaining a copy of the position description

Process

  • Applicants will receive an acknowledgement letter within five business days of the closing date for applications.
  • Applicants who are shortlisted for further selection can expect to be contacted by phone within ten business days of the closing date for applications.
  • All applicants can expect to be advised of the selection decision within six weeks of the closing date for applications.
  • Generally the successful applicant and all unsuccessful applicants shortlisted for interview will receive verbal advice from the recruiting manager within two weeks from the conclusion of the selection process.
  • All applicants will receive formal written advice of the selection decision. This advice will generally be within two weeks of the conclusion of the selection process.
