Foundation Members' Lounge

The Members' Lounge is a relaxed retreat for the exclusive use of State Library of Victoria Foundation members. It can be used to catch up on some quiet reading or take a break from other Library activities.

Where is the Members' Lounge?

The Members' Lounge is located off the La Trobe Reading Room on Level 3, about 40 metres along the right-hand-side wall from the entrance to the Reading Room. The room is clearly marked above the door and with a free-standing sign just outside.

What is in the Lounge?

The Lounge has comfortable seating, copies of daily newspapers (Monday-Friday), a Library PC with internet access, and facilities for using your own laptop, including wireless broadband internet access. There is also a small kitchenette with free tea and coffee-making facilities.

A highlight of the room is the Coppin clock, which previously stood in Queen's Hall. The clock is made up of six pieces, which have decorative panels with a marble finish and carved features. It stands just under three metres high.

How do you access the Lounge?

Entry to the Lounge is restricted to Foundation members; access is gained by 'swiping' a temporary security card at the door. A security card can be obtained by showing a current Foundation membership card at the security guard station at the entrance to the Trescowthick Information Centre. The card can be kept for the duration of your stay at the Library (on the day of issue only) and should be returned to the security guard when you leave the Library. The cards are programmed daily and only provide access on the day of issue.

What can be brought into the Lounge?

Bags

In line with Library policy, large bags and backpacks are not permitted - they should be left in the cloakroom adjacent to the Front Foyer.

Food

No food or drink (other than bottled water, or that provided by the Foundation) is permitted in the Lounge. Likewise, no food or drink should be taken out of the Lounge to other Library spaces.

Phones

Mobile phones should be switched off while in the Lounge, for the comfort of others.

Guests

Foundation members can bring two guests with them per visit. (Children should not be left unattended in the Lounge.)

Personal belongings

Personal belongings should not be left unattended in the Lounge. The Foundation is unable to accept personal responsibility for any lost or damaged belongings.

When is the Lounge open?

The Lounge is open 10am-4.30pm daily, including weekends and public holidays.
