New Locker Service
The State Library has introduced a fee-based locker service to replace the cloakroom service. This new service offers Library users more secure and easy-to-use storage, for a small fee. There are also designated lockers for people with a disability.
How many lockers are there?
There are 420 lockers, compared to around 350 previously available.
Where are the new lockers located?
The new lockers are in the cloakroom.
How much does a locker cost?
It costs $1 to rent a standard locker and $2 to rent a larger locker, for six hours. (A standard locker is big enough to hold a large backpack.)
How do I obtain a locker?
There are 12 electronic pay-points which accept coins and notes, and also give change. After paying, you are allocated a locker and issued with a printed ticket showing your secret six-digit locker access code.
Please note Remember to keep your ticket with you, as you will need your access code to open your locker.
Do I have to rent a locker every visit?
If you don’t need a locker to store bags, you can leave an umbrella or drink container with the security guard in the foyer.
You can still bring a small handbag or a laptop computer (in its own bag) into the Library, but larger bags must be stored in lockers.
What happens if I have a problem with a locker?
The lockers are a managed service provided by Smarte Carte Australia for the State Library, and a customer service officer will be available daily.
Please refer any queries or problems to the customer service officer, or telephone the free-call 1800 number for help (public phones are provided). Library staff are unable to assist with locker queries.
