Conditions of Use

As a user of the Library's free wireless service, you need to abide by the following access conditions:

  • The Library does not provide technical assistance to configure your equipment for wireless access. We do, however, provide some tips for common problems on the Troubleshooting - Wireless Access page.

For problems other than those listed on the troubleshooting page, consult your user's manual or contact your hardware or software provider.

  • The Library cannot be responsible for any changes you make to your computer’s settings and recommends you make a note of any settings before you change them

  • The wireless network is not connected to the Library's public printers. For information on how to print see the note about printing on Accessing the Library's Free Wireless Service.

  • The Library’s wireless network only provides for web browsing, not full internet access. Restrictions on certain file types and sizes also exist. The message 'Warning - blocked site' will display if the file type you are trying to download is not allowed for security reasons, or if the file size exceeds the allowed size.

  • The Library's online journal article databases are available through this service. Networked CD-ROMs are not available.

  • The service will automatically disconnect if not used for 15 minutes.

  • The Library's wireless network is not as secure as its public network. Information sent to and from your laptop may be captured by anyone else with a wireless device. Please keep this in mind when accessing personal or business information. Anti-virus, security and privacy protection is the responsibility of the user.

Under no circumstances shall the State Library of Victoria, nor individual Library staff members, be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, exemplary or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, loss of data, use, or profits, or interruption, or safety of equipment) however caused and on any theory of liability (including negligence or otherwise) arising in any way out of the use of the wireless network, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.
